We are delighted to announce that our newly elected Member of Parliament Layla Moran has agreed to become an Honorary Vice-President of the Society. The following is an extract from our press release:
“We decided a while ago to continue a Society tradition and ask the sitting MP for Abingdon, to be a Vice-President and are delighted that Layla Moran has accepted. We very much look forward to working with her to achieve our objectives of retaining what is good in Abingdon and the surrounding area and helping to make it an even better place to live both now and in the future. Abingdon faces some big challenges at present; for example, the lack of community facilities in the Town Centre, the sad sight of three boarded-up buildings in the Conservation Area and the impact of planned housing developments in adjacent parishes. As the Civic Society, we want to work with others to try to resolve these issues and hope that Layla will be a useful ally.”
In this role, Layla Moran MP will join our other Vice-Presidents, Felicity Dick, Deputy Lieutenant for Oxfordshire and David Clark, an eminent buildings historian and Secretary of The Oxfordshire Buildings Record.
